School Observations & Consultations

Children spend a great deal of time at school. They face academic pressures, and the complexities of social dynamics. For some children, school can be overwhelming and they struggle to cope in heathy ways.

As an elementary educator, Sarah can help bridge the gap between families and school staff. She customizes support to fit the needs of each family.

Services include: attending Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, classroom observations, consultations with school staff and helping parents understand what to expect from the school system.

Classroom Observation

When a child is experiencing difficulties at school and there are unanswered questions, a classroom observation can help determine why your child is struggling. An observation includes:

  • An initial session with parents
  • Classroom observation and input from teachers
  • Follow-up meeting with parents to debrief observation and discuss next steps

In many cases, following the parent debrief session, we set up a meeting with school staff to discuss recommendations and make a plan moving forward.

School staff may benefit from an outside professional to help shed light and offer strategies to support a child to thrive at school. As is all too often the case, the school system is stretched, and may not always have access to resources internally.

School Consultation

School consultations are tailored to the needs of a specific family. A school consultation may include:

  • A conversation with a staff member (teacher, school counsellor, principal) to either gain more information about your child to help us in our work together, or to share with staff more effective ways of supporting a child at school.
  • Meeting with parents and school staff to discuss recommendations and a plan.
